RICOH - The name to know for quality innovations in thermal media
technology. |

|
Ricoh's thermal media products are designed to meet the demanding applications of our customers. The quality of our products, and the wide diversity of their uses, are a result of an ongoing dialogue with our clients who have constantly provided us with new and challenging applications for our products.
Though thermal paper evolved from the invention of sensitized paper invented over 50 years ago, Ricoh entered the thermal paper business in 1977 by manufacturing recording paper for measuring instruments and thermo-sensitive paper for fax machines. After only three years, production increased to meet an increasing market demand.
By 1980, with R&D efforts intensified, Ricoh was able to develop the world's first thermal paper for point-of-sale (POS) label. By 1981, the production volume and sales increased dramatically. A true pacesetter, Ricoh installed the world's largest coater at its Fukui, Japan plant in 1985. The same year, Ricoh Electronics started manufacturing thermal paper with the installation of a state-of-the-art coater in the U.S.
Ricoh Electronics began marketing thermal sensitive papers through its own sales network in 1982. Since 1985, these products have been manufactured at the company's 112,000 square-foot Santa Ana facility. Local production as well as R&D capabilities have been expanded to meet the growing service and new product development needs of Ricoh customers. |
